How to save a whole thread on X

A bookmark on X points at one post. Save the ninth post of a fourteen-post thread and that is exactly what you get back. Here is how to keep the whole thing.

  1. 1. Bookmark the first post, not the one you are reading

Scroll to the top of the thread and bookmark the opening post. A bookmark points at a single post, so saving post 9 of 14 gives you a fragment with no beginning. The first post is the one that reopens the whole conversation.

  2. 2. Copy the thread link for anything important

Open the share menu on the first post and choose Copy link. Pasting that link into a note keeps the thread reachable even if you later clear your bookmarks — though it still breaks if the author deletes the posts.

  3. 3. Ask for the thread back later

Rewind takes each post you saved during the week, finds the rest of that conversation, and sends the whole thread back on Sunday as a single summarised card with a link to the original — so it does not matter which post in the thread you tapped.

Does bookmarking a tweet save the whole thread?

No. A bookmark saves the exact post you tapped. Opening it later shows that post and lets you scroll the conversation only while the posts are still live and public — the saved entry itself is one post.

What about the unroll bots?

Reply bots that unroll a thread into one page have come and gone as X's API terms changed, and they post your request publicly under the thread. They also do nothing for the threads you already saved.

Can I save a thread privately?

Yes. Bookmarks are private: the author is not notified and nobody can see what you saved. Replying to a thread to find it later is public, which is why bookmarking is the better habit.

What happens if the author deletes the thread?

It becomes unreadable everywhere, including in your bookmarks. Copying the text of anything you truly need is the only protection against deletion.

How does Rewind handle threads?

It expands the conversation around your saved post, summarises the thread as a whole rather than quoting the first line, and links to the original so you can read it in full whenever the summary earns it.

Threads, summarised on Sunday

Rewind expands every saved thread and summarises it as a whole, then links you back to the original post.
