Guide

Are X (Twitter) bookmarks private?

Yes. Nobody can see what you have bookmarked on X — not your followers, not the author of the post, not anyone visiting your profile. The one thing that is public is the bookmark count shown under a post, and that number never says who saved it.

Can other people see my X bookmarks?

No. Your bookmark list is visible only to you when you are signed in to your own account. It does not appear on your profile, it is not shown to your followers, and there is no way for another account to open it. Unlike a like or a repost, bookmarking is not a public signal — the author of the post is never told that you bookmarked it.

Then what is the bookmark count on a post?

X shows a bookmark counter under posts: the number of times a post has been saved. That number is public, but it is only a total. It never reveals which accounts bookmarked the post, and there is no list to click through. So people can see that a post was saved 4,000 times; they cannot see that you were one of those saves.

Are bookmarks the same as likes?

No, and this is the difference that matters. Likes are public: anyone can open the Likes tab on your profile and browse what you liked. Bookmarks have no equivalent tab. That is why many people use bookmarks as a private read-later pile and likes as a public signal.

Can X itself see my bookmarks?

Your bookmarks are stored on X's servers, so they are covered by X's own privacy policy and terms — the same as your posts and direct messages. "Private" here means private from other users, not encrypted end-to-end.

What about third-party apps that read my bookmarks?

Any app can only read your bookmarks if you explicitly authorise it through X's official OAuth screen, and only with the permissions listed on that screen. You can review and revoke every connected app at any time in X under Settings → Security and account access → Apps and sessions.

Is Rewind able to see or publish my bookmarks?

Rewind requests read-only access to your bookmarks so it can email them back to you. It cannot post, like, follow, repost, or read your direct messages, and your saved posts are never shown to anyone else or published anywhere. Revoking access in X stops it immediately.

Does bookmarking a post notify the author?

No. The author sees their post's total bookmark count rise, but receives no notification and no indication of who saved it.

Can I delete my bookmarks?

Yes. Open Bookmarks from the side menu, then remove posts individually or use the Clear all bookmarks option in the top-right menu. Clearing them removes your saved list; it does not delete the posts themselves.

Private, but also invisible to you

The problem with a private pile is that you never open it again. Rewind emails your saved posts back to you every Sunday — grouped by topic, each with a short AI summary and a link to the original — with read-only access and nothing ever made public.

Read how to find all your bookmarks, see an example recap, or check what Rewind can and cannot access.
