Readwise alternative: Rewind
Readwise collects highlights from everything you read — books, articles, newsletters and tweets — and resurfaces them over time with spaced repetition, syncing into Obsidian, Notion and Roam. Its Reader app adds a full read-later inbox. It is a serious piece of infrastructure for people who take notes on what they read.
The difference in one line
Readwise is a highlights system for everything you read; Rewind does one thing — your X bookmarks, once a week, by email.
Side by side
| Feature | Readwise | Rewind |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Around $8–10 a month | €1.99 a month, or €0.99 a week |
| Scope | Books, articles, newsletters, PDFs, podcasts and tweets | X bookmarks only |
| What arrives | A daily review of highlights you chose to keep | Every post you saved that week, grouped by topic, each summarised |
| Effort required | You highlight, tag and review | You bookmark on X as usual; nothing else |
| Note-app sync | Obsidian, Notion, Roam and more | None. Email only |
| Best for | Building a long-term notes practice across everything you read | Clearing the X bookmarks you save and never reopen |
When Readwise is the better choice
If you keep a notes system, Readwise is the better tool and it is not close. Nothing here replaces spaced repetition, highlight sync into Obsidian or Notion, or a read-later inbox that handles PDFs and newsletters alongside posts. Readers who already annotate should stay there.
When Rewind is the better choice
Rewind is the better choice if you have tried that and it did not stick. It asks for no highlighting, no tagging and no review queue — you keep bookmarking on X exactly as you do now, and on Sunday the week's saves arrive summarised and grouped. It costs a fifth as much because it does a fifth as much, on purpose.
